Course and Undergraduate Program Deadlines 2023-2024

IMPORTANT: Starting in Autumn 2023, the College of Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee will have separate deadlines for course and undergraduate program/credential proposals.

PLEASE NOTE: The course application and general education designation review processes have changed at the university-level based on recently approved Scholastic Regulations, which created the University Committee on Curriculum Administration (UCCA) and the University Committee on General Education (UCGE). Applications are now administratively reviewed and recorded on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year. However, the CAS Curriculum Committee will only be able to accommodate a rolling deadline for some course change proposals, please read more below. 

Course Proposals

Example: Course applications for Winter 2024 courses received by the CAS Curriculum Committee node in the Kuali workflow by September 18th, 2023 and the UW Curriculum Office by October 6th, 2023 are given priority review. All efforts will be made to have them administratively recorded before the Winter 2024 cut-off date on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Applications reaching the UW Curriculum Office node in the workflow with a requested effective quarter/year of Winter 2024 will be accepted after this priority date but may or may not make it through the review process by the cut-off date. Any application submitted for Winter 2024 that has not been administratively recorded by the Winter 2024 cut-off date will have the effective quarter/year changed to Spring 2024.

Review on a rolling basis: The CAS Curriculum Committee must review all new course proposals, course change proposals requesting the addition of General Education Requirements (A&H, DIV, SSc, NSc, RSN, and C), and undergraduate program and credential proposals. As a result, those 3 types of proposals cannot be reviewed by the CAS Curriculum Committee on a rolling basis. However, the Committee does not review all other course change proposals, and all course change proposals except those involving the addition of General Education Requirements can be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis by the College. Note: course change proposals submitted after our CAS Curriculum Committee deadline may or may not make the UWCO cut-off date or priority date, but we will try our best to have them approved in a timely manner. 

New course proposals need to be fully submitted and approved in UW CM (Kuali) prior to the new course being submitted to the Time Schedule. 

Program Proposals

Program proposals are reviewed by the Faculty Council on Academic Standard’s (FCAS) Subcommittee on Admissions and Programs (SCAP).

Note: Only completed proposals considered ready for university-level review are included on a SCAP meeting agenda. Incomplete proposals, or proposals with extensive issues, will be returned to either the academic unit or college/school curriculum committee for the submitting unit.

Proposals received at the UW Curriculum Office node in the UW CM workflow by one of the quarterly priority submission dates specified below are given priority review by the UW Curriculum Office, and all efforts will be made to have these proposals considered for a Subcommittee on Admissions and Programs (SCAP) meeting. Proposals received at the UW Curriculum Office node in the workflow after a priority submission date may not be considered for a SCAP meeting until the following quarter.

If a program proposal has not met the CAS Curriculum Committee deadline, then it will not be approved for the SCAP priority deadline. However, if a proposal is submitted afterward, but before our next CAS Curriculum Committee course proposal deadline (see at the top of the page), the proposal can be reviewed in the committee's following meeting.

Notice of Proposals

If a program or credential change is substantive then a Notice of Proposal form and review must be completed. Please see NOP FAQs (Questions 7-9).
