Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where do I submit my course and program proposals?

2. How do I submit a new course, course change, program, or credential proposal?

3. How do I remove or add approvers to the UW CM (Kuali) workflow for my department?

4. How can I make changes to my proposal after it has reached the College Committee approval node in UW CM?

5. When will my course proposal be reviewed by the College Curriculum Committee and UW Curriculum Office?

  • Refer to the Curriculum Deadlines page. The CAS curriculum deadline a proposal meets will determine which corresponding College Curriculum Committee meeting it will be reviewed in.
  • A course approved by the College Curriculum Committee does not guarantee immediate review or approval by UWCO. The proposal may be sent back to the submitter by the College Committee or the University Curriculum Office for further editing, and if not returned quickly can miss a particular effective quarter cut-off date.

6. If I have a program or credential that needs to be changed because of a new course or course change, which proposal do I submit first?

  • Submit both the program and/or credential change and the course proposal at the same time.

7. How do I fill out an NOP?

8. How and from whom do I obtain the “College/School Administrator” signature on an NOP form?

  • After the NOP is fully filled out, please send the form to Kiera Dempsey at kdempsey@uw.edu. We will help to obtain the appropriate CAS divisional dean’s signature. Once the form is signed, we will send the NOP to UWCO for submission.

9. How long does it take for the NOP form to be signed and submitted to the UWCO?

  • The timeline is dependent on whether or not there have been previous discussions about the changes or new programs covered in the NOP form with the divisional dean. Before submitting an NOP for signatures, it is highly recommended that a unit communicates with its divisional dean about the changes or new program. NOP review can take up to 3 weeks, but if the divisional dean is already aware of the NOP content then it can be a much faster process.
  • Please also refer to UWCO’s NOP deadlines.

10. How do I create a new course prefix?

  • Create a memo requesting a new prefix using the Curriculum Office's guide
  • The memo must be reviewed and signed by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education for approval. Please send the memo to Kiera Dempsey at kdempsey@uw.edu, we will help you obtain the appropriate signature and forward the memo to the Curriculum Office for processing.

11. How can I request approval for a course to offer an Area of Inquiry designation for 1 quarter such as a Special Topics course?

  • Contact the UWCO at uwcr@uw.edu with an email including the following features:
  1. Area of Inquiry designation
  2. Course, quarter, and section
  3. Syllabus that demonstrates the designation
