Planned Giving

Annually, about 25% of gifts from individuals to the University of Washington are in the form of planned gifts. Many planned gifts ultimately establish endowed funds supporting the school, college, or program of interest to the donor.

Planned gifts can provide donors with the creative and flexible strategies as part of their charitable and estate plans. Some of these gifts provide donors with income, and some can help donors reduce their taxes. The Henry Suzzallo Society honors individuals who have provided a future gift to the UW through bequest language, a will or living trust, a life insurance policy, or a retirement plan. Membership in the Henry Suzzallo Society is a way for the UW to thank and recognize donors now for their commitment to make a future gift.

Your major gift officer can advise and provide information on planned gifts, estate gifts, and outright gifts.

Partnering with Planned Giving

Staff in the Office for Planned Giving work directly with prospects and donors, and they team up with major gift officers to ensure a donor's philanthropic goals are realized in a way that is beneficial for both the donor and the benefiting unit.

Through Planned Giving's liaison relationships, each unit has an assigned gift planner. While the liaison is the primary contact for the unit, any gift planner can be called upon to help with your donor or answer questions related to planned giving. Please reach out to your major gift officer directly with any questions about a planned gift, or email giftplan@uw.edu to reach a gift planner.
