Dean's Office Computer Workstation and IT Policy (Updated 2023)

The CAS IT group provides computing workstations for the Dean’s office staff. As of Summer 2023, the standard computer workstation will consist of a laptop, dock, a single or dual monitor setup, keyboard, and mouse. Dean’s office systems will be on 4–5 year replacement cycle.

The CAS IT Group will reach out to individuals when their system is due for replacement. At that time, we will discuss computer options with the individual and ensure the system we are purchasing for them will meet their business needs.

Standard: The standard laptop option will be a Dell Laptop with 16gb of RAM and 512GB SDD and an i7 processor. Laptops are standard with a 14” display. A dock (should one not already exist at your workstation) will be set up with a single or dual display, depending on end-user preferences. Monitors are a standard 24”. Individuals do have an option to opt for a MacBook Air (16gb RAM, 512GB SSD) as an alternative to the Dell laptop. The MacBook Air option requires unit leadership sign-off; this will ensure the system meets the needs of the unit and will work functionally in the team environment.

If for some reason one of the two options above does not meet the individual or unit needs, please provide a detailed list of what you are requesting and the business case for the modifications. Please provide your business case and the request details to Helen Øland, oland@uw.edu for further review.

Once you have email or written approval from Helen, please forward us your requested configuration and the approval.

You can review the IT purchasing policy at the bottom of this page, if you have any questions please reach out to the CAS IT Team.

CAS-IT Technology Purchasing Policy and Q&A

The Dean's Office Computer Workstation Purchasing Policy is applicable to the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office Staff.

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the College and it is essential that everyone within the Dean's Office has the technology necessary to capably perform their job duties. The CAS IT Team has identified a computing workstation that meets the demands of the modern office, allowing for in-office and remote work.

The CAS-IT team does not purchase furniture or other "special" items for the office workstations.
