Find Funding

Securing funding involves identifying a potential source whose goals and/or mission align with a particular research project and determining eligibility before a PI or team applies. UW has a list of funding sponsors and their websites.

Corporate and Foundation Relations

For foundation or industry sponsored funding announcements, the CAS Corporate and Foundation Relations team is available to support you with pre-proposals and full proposals to ensure they are internally competitive. Please reach out to them before starting an application for RFP from Corporate and Foundation sponsors, as many foundations will invite a proposal only after establishing a relationship.

To help you find funding in these areas, the CFR Funding Opportunities Dashboard is a great resource updated weekly by our partners in UW Advancement.

Funding Resources

Royalty Research Fund (RRF) - Through the Royalty Research Fund (RRF), the Office of Research supports UW faculty in two ways. The Royalty Research grant supports those seeking to establish new research programs, and the Royalty Scholar award provides one quarter of release time for faculty with full teaching loads to engage in concentrated scholarly activities. The purpose of the Royalty Research Fund (RRF) is to advance new directions, particularly:

  1. in disciplines for which external funding opportunities are minimal, and/or
  2. for faculty who are junior in rank, and/or
  3. in cases where funding may provide unique opportunities to increase applicants’ competitiveness for subsequent funding

The Fall 2024 Deadline is the last Monday of September at 5pm. Please make an effort to route your eGC1 and attached documents to the Dean's office by the previous Thursday, so that we can review and provide feedback in time to make edits by the deadline.

Federal Grants - Grants.gov is a single location to learn about federal grant processes, policies, terminology, sponsors and funding opportunities. It supports all 26 federal grant-making agencies. You can also view funding opportunities directly on some agency websites. (i.e., NIHNSF, IES)

Limited Submissions

Some sponsors will limit the number of applications coming from one institution; these are called Limited Submissions. At UW, the process is managed by the Office of Research and details are listed on their website. Pre-proposals are due to the Office of Research office in advance of the sponsor deadline for internal committee review. If selected by the committee, a full proposal will be routed to OSP using an eGC1.
