Fall Quarter Safe Start and COVID19 Planning for Units

COVID 19 Prevention Plans for Units

As part of the UW’s Safe Start plan, and in compliance with state regulations on operations under each “phase” of the Governor’s plan, each unit in Arts & Sciences needs at least one ‘non-research work space’ plan. Templates of the plan are available online. The plan(s) for Arts & Sciences units are reviewed and approved by Steve Majeski and Linda Nelson. Without an approved plan no one in that unit is allowed to return to work on site. The plan(s) need to be reviewed and potentially revised and reviewed again as the UW moves through phases and state, county or UW policies and requirements for the workplace change.

Considerations for creating a unit-specific back-to-work plan:

  • Focus on the current state and amend the plan as the situation changes (moving between phases, faculty/students arriving on campus)
  • Be as specific as possible about employee names/titles who will serve as your unit’s COVID-19 supervisor and are designated as critical employees
  • Please specify maximum capacities for rooms, elevators, etc.
  • Coordinate with other departments if more than one unit occupies a building
  • Plans should be stored in the unit and available in both paper and electronic formats

Online resources also include signage and posters and required COVID-19 safety trainings. Ordering of PPEs (masks, etc) for departments/programs/units will be coordinated through the Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office.
