The College Council has been asked to identify an additional member for the CAS Curriculum Committee (details below) who will represent the Social Sciences Division. The term is 3 years (Fall 2026 through spring 2029) and the workload is expected to be less than 10 hours/quarter (2-4 hours of meetings + preparation for the meetings).
Description of the committee and its work:
The CAS Curriculum Committee reviews new proposals or proposed changes to courses and undergraduate programs in the college, as well as larger curriculum issues. Members serve 3-year terms, with one faculty member from each of the divisions. The committee typically meets 1-2 times per quarter (usually for an hour and half). The typical quarterly workload is about 2-4 hours in person, plus proposal review ahead of those meetings. Faculty who serve on this committee discover much about curriculum process, policy, and practice; even just seeing proposals from across the college opens conversations about pedagogy more generally.
The current members of the committee are:
ARTS
Geoffrey Boers, Professor, Music
HUMANITIES
Josephine Walwema, Teaching Professor, English [rotating off in spring 2026]
NATURAL SCIENCES
Elena Pezzoli, Associate Teaching Professor, Mathematics [rotating off in spring 2026]
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Caley Cook, Teaching Professor, Communication [rotating off in spring 2026]
If you are interested in joining the CAS curriculum committee, or if you know someone who you think would find this opportunity of interest, please respond (or encourage them to respond) through this short survey by Friday May 15. The survey will ask you for a brief description of why you would like to serve on this committee and any relevant experiences you would bring to this group.
The College Council will consider the volunteers at an upcoming meeting.
