Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a climate hospitable to creativity, collegiality, respect, diversity and innovation
  • Take advantage of the rich array of leadership training opportunities available at the UW
  • Effectively align departmental activities with the University of Washington’s Diversity Blueprint, which articulates the tri-campus community’s aspirations for becoming a truly inclusive and equitable environment for learning, research, service, and outreach
  • Engage in regular consultation with departmental colleagues about departmental matters
  • Provide for the conduct of department affairs in an orderly fashion through regular department meetings and the appointment of appropriate committees
  • Seek student advice on matters of concern to students enrolled in the department’s programs
  • Be receptive to questions, complaints, and suggestions from members of the department, and take action in response as appropriate
