Present: Lori Anthony, Case Colvin, James Fesalbon, Josie Gardner, Angie Haggard, Catherine Holliday, Maleah Huggins, Tamara Leonard, Maggie Luning, Hedwige Meyer, Paul Miller, Beth Ramage, Natassia Stelmaszek, and Annie Pearson

  1. Meeting called to order at 3:05 pm.
  2. Introductions/new members
  3. Paul went over committee member and office roles and responsibilities, including reviewing OARS reports. Maggie went over U-Wide meetings and U-Wide representative responsibilities.
  4. Maggie reported the December 2017 U-Wide minutes.
  5. Formal elections were held for committee office positions. Natassia Stelmaszek volunteered to be Chair. Eric Camp was nominated by Paul Miller to be Vice-Chair. The committee seconded and approved this election. Maggie Luning volunteered to be Secretary. Beth Ramage and Maggie Luning volunteered to be U-Wide representatives. All positions were approved by the committee.

This OARS report (2017-11-102) involved someone being hit by a car while on their bike trying to cross the intersection of 15th and Pacific, crossing 15th. The group discussed the hazards of this intersection and the difficulty of crossing it. We discussed the benefits of bringing the issue to the University Transportation Committee.

  4. New business: Maggie followed up on a topic from the November Group 6/December U-Wide meeting about custodians encountering transients early in the morning before business hours in Smith Hall. She informed committee member from Smith Hall that UWPD can be contacted at any point to assist custodians with outside business hours sweeps. Drama and Padelford building residents reported they have sweeps done regularly. A committee member from Spanish & Portuguese Studies mentioned the Learning Spaces Policy from the Office of the University Registrar that will go into effect Spring of 2018. Classes will be stretched out past normal business hours. The standard instructional day will then be defined as 8:30 am – 6:20 pm. The committee was not sure if this would affect current building business hours policies.
  5. Next meeting is Thursday, February 15th, 2018 at 3 pm in CMU 065.
