CAS Advising FAQ

To avoid replicating existing information elsewhere, we will focus on questions we have heard explicitly from multiple CAS advisors, linking to other information where appropriate.

1. What about placement tests?

See the last bullet point of this email update. Language departments are working on it; solutions will likely vary by department.

2. How do we handle internships and experiential learning?

Dean Stacey addresses that in this email. The college recommendation is to limit to work that can be done remotely.

3. What about ACCESS students?

Formally, there is no change in policy. The Registrar has a page specifically for Spring 2020 questions.

4. Will there be changes to advising processes (e.g., change of major) to facilitate remote work?

The Registrar's office is working on these issues. We will update here as we receive new information.

5. Is there guidance on grading C/NC? What about S/NS?

Dean Stacey's email also addressed this issue. That is the recommendation to CAS faculty, though we may still have some C/NC courses. There are no current plans to change policy regarding S/NS.

6. Will Commencement go forward as planned?

There is no decision yet on Commencement, or new guidance on individual department celebration events. Central leadership is aware of the importance of commencement to students and families, and is working on the issue.

7. What do we tell students about Summer and Autumn?

At this point, we have no new information on Summer or Autumn quarters. Expect more discussion after we get through the beginning of Spring quarter.

8. What do we tell international students returning home for Spring?

CIRCLE has posted a number of resources for international students returning home for Spring quarter.
