Course Proposals

Applications must be received at the UW Curriculum Office node in the workflow to meet a UWCO deadline. For example, to meet the deadline for an application requesting an effective quarter/year of Spring 2027, it must reach the CAS Curriculum Committee node by December 7, 2026, and then the UW Curriculum Office node in the Kuali workflow by Friday, January 8, 2027.

Review on a rolling basis: The CAS Curriculum Committee must review all new course proposals, course change proposals requesting the addition of General Education Requirements (A&H, DIV, SSc, NSc, RSN, and C), and undergraduate program and credential proposals. As a result, those 3 types of proposals cannot be reviewed by the CAS Curriculum Committee on a rolling basis.

However, the Committee does not review all other course change proposals, and all course change proposals except those involving the addition of General Education Requirements can be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis by the College. Note: course change proposals submitted after our CAS Curriculum Committee deadline may or may not make the UWCO deadline, but we will try our best to have them approved on time. 

New course proposals need to be fully submitted and approved in UW CM (Kuali) before the new course is submitted to the Time Schedule. 

Undergraduate Program/Credential Proposals

Program proposals are reviewed by the Faculty Council on Academic Standard’s (FCAS) Subcommittee on Admissions and Programs (SCAP).

Proposals received at the UW Curriculum Office node in the UW CM workflow by one of the quarterly priority submission dates specified below are given priority review by the UW Curriculum Office, and all efforts will be made to have these proposals considered for a Subcommittee on Admissions and Programs (SCAP) meeting. Proposals received at the UW Curriculum Office node in the workflow after a priority submission date may not be considered for a SCAP meeting until the following quarter.

If a program proposal has not met the CAS Curriculum Committee deadline, then it will not be approved for the SCAP priority deadline. However, if a proposal is submitted afterward, but before our next CAS Curriculum Committee course proposal deadline (see at the top of the page), the proposal can be reviewed in the committee's following meeting.

Notice of Proposals

If a program or credential change is substantive then a Notice of Proposal form and review must be completed. Please see NOP FAQs (Questions 7-9).
