The only members of the faculty who hold continuing appointments with no term limits are Associate Professors, Associate Professors WOT, Professors, Professors WOT, and emeritus faculty. All other titles must be reappointed according to the schedule below.

Second 3-year appt: promotion decision made during sixth (or last) year October – submit via Interfolio promotion process
Clinical appointment 1 year In a timely manner February – submit to College via spreadsheet
Part-Time Lecturers (competitively recruited) 1-5 years If initial appointment is one year: 3 months before expiration of appointment February – submit via Interfolio reappointment process
Longer terms, second & subsequent years: 6 months before expiration of appointment November – submit via Interfolio reappointment process
Lecturers, temporary, full- or part-time 1 quarter or 1 year
*Not to exceed 3 consecutive years averaging 50% FTE or more each year

Postdoctoral Scholar 1-5 years

The College of Arts & Sciences has implemented standard reappointment terms for teaching faculty.

Assistant Teaching Professor: 3 years
Associate Teaching Professor: 5 years
Teaching Professor: 7 years

Shorter terms can be offered if there is uncertainty in either funding or enrollment, or for performance reasons. Longer terms can be requested through the Divisional Deans and will be considered by the Executive Staff in the Dean’s office.
