There are three main types of staff appointed in the College of Arts & Sciences:
Classified Staff
Back to TopThese employees are found throughout the College performing work such as payroll, procurement, classroom laboratory management and time scheduling. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU, local 925) represents this employee group. By statute their collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is for two years, coinciding with the State biennial fiscal structure. The contract contains language on mandatory salary steps (with a cap) based on service years within a given job profile. The contract has also had a mandatory COLA.
Professional Staff
Back to TopThese employees are found throughout the College performing functions that include student advising, IT, and department management. This employee group is ‘at will’ and not covered either by a collective bargaining agreement or civil service policies. UW HR Compensation conducts a biennial salary survey to maintain market minima, maxima, and midpoints for all professional job profiles grade 5 through 10. The College's goal for professional staff funded by permanent GOF is to pay at least 90% of market midpoint. Meritorious professional staff are eligible for a merit increase which has historically tracked to the base merit approved for faculty although they are not formally connected.
